Question: What is the purpose of Covenant Presbyterian Church?

Answer:    To proclaim Christ alone and equip the saints to serve Him in all of life.

We are a church that strives to teach Christ in such a scripturally informed way that His people might be captivated by the fullness of His purposes, therefore motivated to worship wholeheartedly, serve obediently, and actively pursue His kingdom to be applied in the lives and institutions of Hot Springs.

Why is this unique? We believe that the Gospel, or good news of Jesus Christ, is God’s perfect achievement for His glory and people’s greatest good.  Programs and teaching on self-esteem, relationship, social justice, prosperity, activity or any other avenue cannot meet the deepest longings of the human heart.  Only in a vital and living relationship with Christ do people find their real needs met: peace of conscience from the guilt of wrongdoing, their ultimate worth in Christ, assurance of salvation, hope of eternal life, and purpose in every detail of their lives.  It is when Christ’s mercy in the gospel is grasped that we are rightly motivated and captivated toward this purpose of proclamation and service.

Achieving our purpose:

 Worship

 ·         God-honoring

We seek to do in worship what the Scriptures prescribe is the very best for the glory of God and the good of His people.  We sing, pray, read, give, and participate in the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and baptism with Scriptural integrity at the forefront.

 ·         Heart-engaging

Worship is to engage the heart of believers as Christ’s followers are led to apprehend the beauties of His grace.

 ·         Compelling to Obedience

Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep my commands.”  When a heart truly understands the grace of Christ, it wants nothing more than to please its Savior.  Our worship seeks to clearly explain the Scriptures so that the proper response to the grace of Christ is that we desire to obey our good God and Savior.

Discipleship

 ·         Gospel-driven

As we rightly apprehend our position in Christ as believers, we strive through Christ’s accomplished work on our behalf to live as becomes a follower of Christ.  Only then can we delight in the perfect law of God.

 ·         Life-changing

At every step of the way, that means applying the life, death, and resurrection of Christ to each follower’s relationships, careers, hobbies, and interests.

 ·         Patient

The more we grow in Him, the more we realize how sinful and lacking we really are.  Yet God grows us still. . . patiently, slowly.  At Covenant we seek to see small steps of growth in its members as great strides in faith in Christ.

Mission

 ·         Intentional

We seek to be a church that prays and acts on behalf of believers and unbelievers to see them come to know and grow in Jesus Christ.

 ·         Relational

Covenant believes that ministry begins in relationships not programs.  Therefore we strive to model ways in which we can all build relationships with our neighbors, co-workers, and community so that those relationships will impact our culture for the kingdom of God.

 ·         Appealing

Christ attracted the sinners and outcasts.  We want to be attractive and attracting as the people who represent the Savior.  As a church, we strive to be beyond reproach in our witness to the community.  Our membership is encouraged to speak and act in such a way that Christ is honored in all spheres of life.
